Last week we entered the trail off of Wainwright Drive. We parked on the street and entered the green trail and shortly down the walking trail, over a bridge and to the left was a small tot lot. During our walk on the trail we also came across the Vantage Hill Pool. Although it was already closed for the season, we still took a picture of the sign. The tot lot itself, is pretty small, but has a slide, steering wheel and steps. Perfect for my boys as they loved going on a “treasure hunt”, going over the bridge to get to this playground.
If you live in the Lake Anne neighborhood, enjoy a nice walk on the trail and stop at this tot lot.
Temporary Road Recreation Area is located in the Lake Anne quarter of the Reston Association. This park had a nice serene atmosphere to it. There is a big open yard where our boys kicked a ball to each other while I sat and enjoyed the calmness of the park.
There are two ways to enter this park; if you are on the trail, you can enter it that way near the swings or if traveling by car, the park is located of North Shore Drive. This park is extremely shaded with lots of trees. All the leaves are starting to fall and it truly is a perfect Autumn setting. The picnic pavilion is beautiful and has lots of space and a grill. If you are looking to rent, click here.
There is a large, open area that is great for kids. To the right of the pavilion is a nice little bistro stone table with two stone stools. Swings are also included at this park; there is one infant swing and one normal swing to enjoy.
If you are located in the Lake Anne quarter, hop on the trail and check out this recreation area!
As mentioned above, this park is located right off of the trails in Reston. This park is a very nice shaded area. There is a small playground area with four slides and four swings (two infant and two regular). There is also a picnic table and a bench. The ground of the playground area has mulch and the playground is a good distance away from Soapstone Road, so you don’t have to worry about a busy road. There is a parking lot as well.
If you are in walking distance to Hunter Woods/Dogwood parks, hop on the trail and enjoy a nice nature walk and picnic lunch.
Uplands Rec Area in Reston, VA is part of the Reston Association Community. The Rec Area includes tennis courts, pool with restrooms, basketball court, baseball field and small playground area. The tennis courts, pool and other athletic fields are for residents use only. The small playground is located up the path from the tennis courts. You can either park near the tennis courts or drive around the block and park closer to the small playground.
The small playground doesn’t have any shade around but it does have two park benches. The equipment was in good shape and had plenty of mulch around the equipment. Even though it’s a small playground area it would be a nice walk if you lived close by.
A cute little playground that has enough grass for the kids to burn off some energy and a small piece of equipment to climb and slide on in Reston!
(We parked along Club Pond Lane and walked a short distance down the trail. If you don’t live in the neighborhood, you could also park at Polo Fields parking lot and take the trail).
We really enjoy taking the trails in Reston and enjoy coming across some of these nice little neighborhood parks. We got to cross a bridge on the trail and then the boys got really excited and ran to the playground equipment. There were two slides, climbing equipment and monkey bars. Just passed the playground equipment are four swings (two baby and two regular). Behind the playground area is a basketball court. Last week was a very hot and humid day. We were pleasantly surprised by how nicely shaded this park was. There was a picnic table with a trash can as well.
If you live in the Polo Fields or Colts Brook neighborhood, this park is one of three parks in your neighborhood. If you aren’t in the neighborhood, I still recommend checking these parks out!
Lake Newport Recreation Park has walking trails, a gated tot lot, area for a picnic, If you belong to the Reston Association you can volleyball court, baseball diamond and Reston Community pool. The tot lot is gated in and has plenty of extra space to run around, as well as a picnic table. The playground equipment has two slides and some climbing equipment. Their is trail access linked to this park as well. They do have a community pool, however it was getting prepped and ready for the Summer season during our visit last week. If you are a Reston Association member or for a small fee, feel free to stop on by to check out the pool during the Summer season.
Located in the North Point District? Take a hike on the trails and stop on by this park and have fun exploring the different things to do!
There are different parts of North Hills Park. The pictures above are of the tot lot, playground, trail and pavilion. Just a short drive down the road are some tennis, basketball courts and swimming pool. Although there is not much parking, this park has plenty of shade. The playground is a short path away from the road and has a bench for the parents to watch the kiddos play and explore. There is a nice piece of playground equipment, as well as a tunnel to climb through. There is an open courtyard to play and the pavilion is completely covered with several picnic tables. There is also a nicely sized grill, trash cans and restrooms. The pavilion is available to rent as well. The Reston Association trails connect through this park as well.
If you live in the North Hills neighborhood or are nearby, stop on by to this family friendly park and plan to have a picnic and go on a nature walk.
Glade Recreation Area is part of the Hunter Woods District in the Reston Association. Included in this park is a tot lot, restrooms, pavilion, basketball and tennis courts and a pool during the Summer months.
Glade Recreation Area has a large parking lot. There is so much to do here and you don’t have to belong to the Reston Association to enjoy some of the perks! There are tennis and basketball courts. My boys had a ton of fun at the tot lot; it’s great for all ages. The playground itself is tucked in the furthest away from the parking lot. There’s a little climbing wall and slide. There is a whole back wall fence that has other play equipment such as a steering wheel and a little kids picnic area. Two infant swings and two regular swings are included in this play area. In addition to the little kids picnic area, there is another picnic table with a covering that will keep you shaded as well. After we played, we took a stroll on the walking trail. In addition, this park has restrooms, trash cans, benches and a water fountain. If you belong to the Reston Association you can also enjoy the pool at Glade Recreation Area.
If you are in the Hunter Woods area or nearby, this is a good park to put on your visit list!
Colten Neck Recreation Park is a park within the Reston Association and is a nice little park located off Colten Neck Drive in Reston, VA. There is a walking trail, tennis court, practice tennis station, tot lot, trash benches and a picnic table.
This park has lots of shade and is surrounded by trees. The playground is a nice little piece of equipment including two slides next to each other, steering wheel and climbing area. The walking trail is located at marker 31N, connected by the Colten Neck/South Park neighborhood. If you are looking to take a nice, peaceful walk, this is a great park to visit. The Autumnwood Recreation Area in Reston is part of the Reston Association park system. Located by the Autumnwood pool and near one of the many paved trails that run through Reston, the park offers a large piece of play equipment and swings.
When we visited the park last year (which seems forever and a ton of snow ago) the kids had a great time playing on the large piece of play equipment. My kids are huge fans of slides so they were in heaven with the multiple slides on the piece of equipment. Shade around the playground during the early afternoon was great. Both types of swings are located at the park but sadly no restrooms for the public. If you’re a Reston Association member and the pool is open you may be able to use their public indoor restrooms. There are picnic benches and tables to rest and enjoy a picnic lunch or snack in the shade but still be able to see the kids on the equipment. As always we hit up the small trail system around the park and the kids brought their bikes to ride along the paved trail.
If you live near or in the North Point District of Reston, check out Autumnwood Recreation Area!
