Walter Delisle Park in Manassas, VA!

Walter Delisle Park in Manassas, VA!

Recently we stopped by and visited Walter Delisle Park in Manassas.  This is a great little park on the back roads of Manassas and has great shade on those extra hot days.

Address: 9027 West Street, Manassas, VA

This was a nice, quiet park to go and watch my 4 and 2 year old play and be content with one another.  Since it is a very small park including only one tiny tot lot, it was a nice park to sit down just and watch the boys play and use their imagination.  Sometimes when we venture to larger parks, it’s hard for them to play together because of their difference interests, so this was a nice change of pace. There is also a pretty large size yard for the kiddos to run around at.  We played freeze tag for a while and they enjoyed a nice little break at their picnic table to eat a snack.  This park is geared towards the younger crowd, I would say 4 and under.

If you are in Manassas and looking to visit a smaller park to tire the kiddos out, check this park out!

The playground has three different equipment structures, which include two different slides and lots of different climbing equipment.  My toddler loved the climbing wall and wanted to do it over and over again.  There is a unique piece that I haven’t yet seen at a playground; the half circle with two tires underneath is a new modern-like see-saw.  Behind that was a fun little zipline.  Once we got the hang of it we had lots of fun on that too! There are four regular swings and two infant swings as well.  The ground of the park is mulch and there are picnic benches around the outside of the parameter for the parents to sit and watch their kiddos play.

Looking to have a picnic?  This park is for you, as there are plenty of picnic tables with a grill centrally located.  Don’t forget your basketball or sidewalk chalk as their are two different basketball courts to play at.  If you are in the City of Manassas, make sure you stop to visit this park!

I was pleasantly surprised when we pulled up to this neighborhood park and found several nice pieces of play equipment. The kids didn’t want to leave because of the different features on the equipment that you don’t see at every park. If you live in the City of Manassas around the Oakenshaw Neighborhood, check out this nice park!

Byrd Park in Manassas, VA!

Byrd Park in Manassas, VA!

City of Manassas sometimes get a bad rap but when it comes to their parks they go all out. The other day we were out in Manassas and visited Byrd Park. Byrd Park has large and small play areas with swings for all ages. There are also 2 softball fields and full court basketball courts. The neatest part of the park is the fenced in roller hockey area. One side of the court has many different colored basketball hoops for all different ages and heights to play. Restrooms are indoor and are open seasonally, May-October.

The playground area offers two different sizes of equipment for the younger and older crowds all in great shape. Both types of swings are available but in different parts of the park. You can see each playground clearly but if you had a younger child and an older child who wanted to play on the other equipment it would be good distance from each other. In the older kids area there is a great sea serpent for them to climb on and other motor developmental type climbing equipment.

The park also has a small picnic pavilion with grills that you can reserve by calling the City of Manassas. The Roller Hockey Area is fenced in and also has one section dedicated to what they call bankshot basketball. My boys just happen to bring a soccer ball so they shot around and played with the fun size basketball hoops.

The boys had a great time at this park and asked to go back to play basketball! If you live in the City of Manassas or you just want to find a nice park in the Manassas area, check out Byrd Park!

Ben Lomond Park has a small playground, public restrooms, picnic pavilion, tennis, basketball, volleyball courts, soccer/football and baseball fields. The playground area doesn’t have any shade over it but there a few trees to stand under. The play area includes a small piece of play equipment and both types of swings. Restrooms are available in the form of portable restrooms and indoor restrooms by the soccer field. The indoor restrooms aren’t always open but the portable restrooms are there all the time (except maybe in the cold winter months).

We had never been to Splash Down Waterpark before so I was really surprised. When I spoke with the manager he told me everything that the park has including 2-4-story waterslides, 2-2-story slides, 2-toddler slides, bubblers and fountains, 2-Fast Cannon Water slides, activity pool, lily pad and log walk, and beach area with sand. In Mom words, great play area with small slides and fountains for small walkers and plenty of life vests for all ages. For the larger slides you need to be 48″ tall to ride but I noticed they let my 45″ son ride with a vest on because he passed the swim test. There are plenty of chairs for everyone. Shade is limited but in the kiddie slide and fountain area they have two large umbrellas in the water to stand under. Public restrooms were clean and fully stocked when we were there. No food or outside drinks are allowed in the park so you can either eat at the park or get a stamp and bring a picnic lunch. There are plenty of picnic tables in the surrounding park.

(***I didn’t take a lot of pictures due to the volume of people in the park and from chasing my kiddos around the entire time***)

We had a great time at the park. I observed the lifeguards following all procedures and paying attention unlike the lifeguards at my community pool.  I would think that during the weekend this place is very busy. They do have a cut off point to avoid overcrowding so be aware. Prices are pretty reasonable for admission as compared to major waterpark attractions at other facilities. Even though we don’t live close by we will definitely be returning during the week to hit up the large slides since my oldest is now obsessed with water slides!

Jennie Dean Park in Manassas, VA!

Jennie Dean Park in Manassas, VA!

The other day when the weather was nice we checked out the Jennie Dean Park in Manassas, VA. The large park is located off of Wellington Road near the Wellington Community in the City of Manassas.

Address: 9680 Wellington Road, Manassas, VA

The park is very large including two baseball fields, a tennis court, walking trails, pond and playground. The paved walking trail, Winter’s Branch Trail is 0.9 miles and when you’re finished you can head over to the pond behind the Boys & Girls Club Building. Indoor Restrooms are located next door to the Boys & Girls Club and Baseball fields. The large playground is closed to the public from 8:30-3:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday. The playground is attached to the Jennie Dean Elementary School and for safety reasons is not open to the public during school hours. The playground has four different pieces of large and small play equipment and two different sets of swings with toddler and regular swings. Plus a fun rock wall for the kids to climb. The equipment doesn’t have any shade over it but there are several benches sitting under some trees.

This park has lots of green space for the kids to run around and burn off all that energy. Next time we are in the City of Manassas we’re going to have to swing by and check out the pond and the trails.

Rosemount-Lewis Regional Park in Manassas, VA!

Rosemount-Lewis Regional Park in Manassas, VA!

Last week we checked out Rosemount-Lewis Regional Park in Manassas, VA. This Prince William County park is located off of 11000 Crestwood Drive. The county website has the address as 8150 Ashton Avenue but this is not correct.

Address: 11000 Crestwood Drive, Manassas, VA

The park entrance is located in a cul de sac on Crestwood Drive. You have to park in the cul de sac and walk down the gravel drive to get to the walking trails, tennis court, basketball court, play equipment and picnic pavilion. As you can see from the red arrow I have added to the above photo I have pointed out that only pedestrians and emergency vehicles are allowed on the gravel road. Apparently I just glanced over that sign and with the gate open I just drove on in. Not until after we were done checking out the park that I noticed the small sign. If I learned anything from this mistake is that it’s a pretty good walk down the gravel road to get to everything.

The park has two pieces equipment in pretty good shape. The tennis and basketball court were in good shape as well. The equipment didn’t have any shade over it but the picnic pavilion is right next it. Sadly there are no restrooms for this park. But there are plenty of paved walking trails for you to stroll on in and around the park.

This was a cute park with plenty of grass and trees for the kids to run around. If you live in the Crestwood Village or Paradise Townhomes in Manassas you can easily walk to the park down one of the paved paths or gravel road to check it out.

Fairmont Park in Manassas, VA!

Fairmont Park in Manassas, VA!

The weather was great today so the kids and I ventured out to Prince William County and did a park crawl. First up on our list was Fairmont Park in Manassas, VA. This Prince William County park is located off of Fairmont Avenue in a neighborhood of single family homes.

Address: 9790 Fairmont Ave, Manassas, VA 20109

The park has one piece of the equipment, a set of toddler swings and a tire swing for the older kids. The equipment doesn’t have much shade over it but there is a grove of trees for the kids to get out of the heat. One of the big slides was out of commission but the rest of the equipment was in good shape. There are restrooms at the park but since it’s still February the indoor restrooms were winterized.

This is a cute neighborhood park and if you live in the area you should it check it out!
