Last week we were visiting a friend in Herndon and she recommended we go to Southview Community Park. It is affiliated to the Southview Community Church, but their vision for this park is to share this park with the whole community in the Northern Virginia area.
This park is gated in (that locks), has a large playground with swings (both infant and regular), picnic tables with roof and the playground flooring is made up of recycled rubber. The playground was huge, colorful playground with a climbing wall, tunnel, slides and more! As a mom with two very busy boys, I really enjoyed there was a fence around this playground so I could let the boys explore and know that they were safe.
Southview had their park grand opening in September 2013. This park was created because they wanted to provide an even better experience for the community with a safe, fun environment where parents, grandparents and caregivers can come and bring their kids.
If you are in the Herndon area, I highly recommend planning a trip to let your little ones explore and play.
The weather lately has been great and we’ve been heading out to lots of parks. This week we headed over to Harding Park in the Town of Herndon, VA. This Fairfax County park is small but includes a piece of play equipment and swings.
The play equipment was in great condition and the swings had both regular and toddler swings. There isn’t any shade over the equipment but there is a picnic table under a small batch of trees. There are no restrooms at the park but there are few fast food places down the street where you can use public restrooms.
This was a nice park located on the corner of Van Buren Street and Jefferson Street near Historic Herndon. A split rail fence seperates the park from the small residential streets around the park. Parking is slim with spots in the townhome parking lot or on the street edge off of Jefferson Street. If you live in the area or find yourself in Herndon swing by and check out Harding Park.
The park has recently installed some new play equipment and swings. There are some fun rope climbing apparatuses and different climbing parts to each section. The swings now include a special needs swing, toddler, regular and tire swings. The play equipment has some great color and the kids had a really nice time playing.
The weather lately has been crazy warm for the month of November. So we have been taking full advantage of the warm weather to check out some new parks. Last week we checked out Bruin Park in Herndon, VA.
Bruin Park is an 8-acre park that has plenty of shade and the play equipment was in good shape. There is a set of swing sets with both toddler and adult swings. A clean porta potty is available near the parking lot and when we were there it had just been cleaned. In addition to the play equipment it has two tennis courts, a softball field, a picnic pavilion and a basketball court.
As we were leaving the park we ran into grandmother bringing her grandchild to the playground and she informed me that she use to bring her son to the this park 30 years ago. She was excited to see that there were still lots of trees and she could bring her grandchild over to play.
This is a cute clean neighborhood park located in Fairfax County off of Van Buren Street near Old Town Herndon. If you live nearby you should check it out!
This 6-acre park is located between Cuttermill and Westfield single family home divisions. The park offers a baseball field, half court basketball, volleyball, playground and walking paths. It also has a small basketball hoop for the kids. Two sets of playground equipment are completely in the shade including a picnic table and benches. Sadly there are no restrooms as this park.
This is a cute little park with lots of shade and if you live in Herndon you should check it out!
