Located in Herndon, VA off of Sunrise Valley Drive, Arrowbrook Centre Park is a Fairfax County Park mainly known as for their soccer fields, tennis and basketball courts. Most recently, they added a fun, gated in jungle gym for the kids to play on and my boys loved it!
Although this park is known for all their sport fields, they recently added a gated in jungle gym for all the kids to play on and it was a big hit! It’s a unique piece of equipment and has lots of climbing features, a few little discs you can sit on and bounce. Since it’s gated, we also noticed people that came and brought bikes and ride on toys for the kids to play with as well. There is also a tennis court, basketball court and a large soccer field. Arrowhead Centre Park also had “practice golf green”, where you could practice your putt. There Picnic Shelter is available to rent as well. Once you enter there is a huge parking lot and a walkway to all the fields and playground.
If you live near Arrowbrook Centre Park, this is a great park for you to check out!
This 10 acre park has two baseball fields, lighted basketball courts, soccer field,a tot lot and a smaller for tot lot for little ones. Although there are not any picnic tables, there are several benches to sit back and enjoy your little ones play. There is a nice sized parking lot, however, there is not very much shade throughout the play areas. Restrooms and trashcans are located throughout the park as well.
If you are a Herndon resident and have kids both older and younger, this is a great park to have the older kids practice ball, while the little ones play on the tot lot.
**Please Note: Restrooms are available May-October**
This tot lot is ideal for kids 5-12, but is great for all age groups. Although this park has lots of shade, there was no shade over the playground. In addition to the tot lot, this park has a nice size dog park. There are two fenced in areas. One for bigger dogs (up to 50 dogs) and another for smaller dogs (up to 50 dogs).
If you live in Herndon and have dogs, I highly recommend checking out this park. There are benches around the dog park, otherwise no other seating or tables are at this park.
**Please note: Restrooms are available May-October**
Runnymeade Park in Herndon, VA is a 58-acre natural park in the Town of Herndon that follows along the Sugarland Run Stream. The park has hiking trails along the stream, a picnic pavilion and a porta potty. A Boy Scout project has many of the local fauna displayed with the names of the different plants and trees.
When we were here at the park it was just after the last snowfall. Certain areas along the trail can be mushy after a rain storm so beware. There is a short paved trail before it turns to gravel/dirt trail. If you’re looking for a little nature walk this is perfect local spot to check out. Click here for the Trail Map.
When we hit the trails we also did a little geocaching along the way. If you live in the Town of Herndon and enjoy a nature hike check out Runnymeade Park.
Today was an awesome day to head out to the park so we headed over to Trailside Park in Herndon, VA. Trailside Park like its counterpart in Ashburn is located along the W&OD Trail and near the Herndon Centennial Golf Course in the Town of Herndon. The park includes picnic shelter, skate park and playground area.
The playground area had plenty of shade even without the leaves being on the trees yet. There is one piece of school-aged play equipment, a ride on car, and balance beam. There are plenty of picnic benches and tables available in the shade in addition to the picnic shelter. The skate park feature was fun for the boys to play in and when the teenagers arrived they were really excited to watch them skate. I was super impressed with the teenagers that were there. They made a point not to smoke or use foul language around the boys and when the boys asked them to do tricks they were more than happy to accommodate them. Kudos to their parents for raising great kids! In addition to the skate park and playground area there is a sand volleyball court. Restrooms are available in the form of porta potties in the parking lot and when we were there they were pretty clean.
We had a great time at this park and will be hitting it up again when we’re in the Herndon area. The availability of the W&OD trail right next to the park is pretty awesome if you like to walk to an area park. If you live in the Town of Herndon and are looking for a new park to checkout try Trailside Park.

The indoor restrooms are conveniently located right next to the equipment which was a bonus for this potty trainer. A picnic pavilion is also next to the park and can be rented for events. The indoor and outdoor tennis courts sit adjacent to the park. My youngest was in heaven watching the tennis players hit back and forth. In addition to the tennis courts the park also has two baseball fields and a soccer field. The W & OD Trail runs right by the park so if you live in the area you could just hop on the trail to get to the park.
There are two areas, one for the toddler/pre-k age group and then one for the older kids.
For the toddler group they added colorful slides and climbing toys, as well as a sit and spin toy that the kids love. They also added a climbing wall for the younger children to practice on. They added a climbing wall for the older kids and taller slides with lots of toys to spin on. They also added a spider web for climbing. There are the traditional monkey bars and a log roll to stand and run on.

The park has recently installed some new play equipment and swings. There are some fun rope climbing apparatuses and different climbing parts to each section. The swings now include a special needs swing, toddler, regular and tire swings. The play equipment has some great color and the kids had a really nice time playing.
The weather lately has been crazy warm for the month of November. So we have been taking full advantage of the warm weather to check out some new parks. Last week we checked out Bruin Park in Herndon, VA.
Bruin Park is an 8-acre park that has plenty of shade and the play equipment was in good shape. There is a set of swing sets with both toddler and adult swings. A clean porta potty is available near the parking lot and when we were there it had just been cleaned. In addition to the play equipment it has two tennis courts, a softball field, a picnic pavilion and a basketball court.
As we were leaving the park we ran into grandmother bringing her grandchild to the playground and she informed me that she use to bring her son to the this park 30 years ago. She was excited to see that there were still lots of trees and she could bring her grandchild over to play.
