Broadlands Nature Center in Ashburn, VA!

The Broadlands in Ashburn, VA is a small community development between Dulles Airport and Leesburg, VA. The community is known as a “natural” community as it has designated wetland areas and plenty of natural space throughout the community including Stream Valley Park that runs through the entire  community. Last week we headed over to their small Nature Center and HOA Association complex.

The kids had a great time at the Nature Center. They went through it really quickly but then we headed outside to check out the tot lot and swings next the Nature Center/HOA Complex. This tot lot is just one of many that residents can use. If you’re part of the community there is also tennis courts and a basketball court along with tons of paved trails near the facility. The tot lot is pretty much for the older crowd. The small piece of equipment is tall and only regular swings are available. A portable restroom sits just outside the tennis courts.

The Broadland’s residents are pretty luck to have the nature center and all the other activities included as part of the Home Owners Association. If you’re ever in the area you should stop in and check out the Nature Center at Broadlands and Stream Valley Park.

Dulles 28 Centre Toddler Area in Ashburn, VA!

A few months ago a reader reached out and requested I post about the Dulles 28 Centre Toddler Area in Ashburn. The fenced-in rubber matted play area sits just outside Cold Stone Creamery and PotBelly in the Dulles 28 Centre Shopping Plaza. Also in the shopping center is Wegmans and Target. This cute little play area  is perfect for the little ones with its small slides, fence with a gate and pressed rubber ground.

When my boys were younger we frequented this little play area a ton. The play area doesn’t have any shade over it but there is plenty of shade coming off of the buildings around the play area. Restrooms are located in Cold Stone and PotBelly. Just keep in mind restrooms are for patrons and they may frown on people coming in just to use the restroom.

This is the perfect starter park for new parents and also a great spot to hang with the kids while chatting with other parents. If you live in the Ashburn area or surroundings areas check out the Dulles 28 Centre Toddler Area.

Jumping Jack Sports in Ashburn, VA!

Today we checked out Jumping Jack Sports in Ashburn, VA! Since we couldn’t be outside today we decided to hit up this local favorite in Ashburn. Jumping Jack Sports is located in the same strip mall as the Sports Bounce of Loudoun. Remember to wear your socks  as shoes are not allowed on the inflatables.

Address: 44710 Cape Court  Ashburn, VA 20147

My boys had a blast running through the inflatable obstacle course, climbing the rock wall and jumping in the bounce house. My littlest guy wasn’t left out either, there were plenty of ride on toys and balls for him to kick around. During the open play session they had a monitor person not just watching the kids but helping them over the tougher parts of the obstacle course. He even took my youngest son down the big slide and from then on I couldn’t get him out.
The open play sessions change from week to week so it’s best to check their website for dates and times. In addition to open play, Jumping Jack Sports offers sports classes for children and  for a fee you can hold your child’s birthday party here. Restrooms were available and clean. No snacks are allowed inside the building so the play area was very clean.
Even though the open play session was only an hour and a half the kids were pooped out once we got home and took a long nap. If it’s yucky outside come check out Jumping Jack Sports in Ashburn.

Elizabeth Mills Riverfront Park in Ashburn, VA!

Elizabeth Mills Riverfront Park in Ashburn, VA!

The other day we checked out Elizabeth Mills Riverfront Park at the advice of a friend. Located in Loudoun County you have to drive through the neighboorhood of Lansdowne on the Potomac to arrive at the entrance to the park. You’ll find the pathway takes you right through The Golf Club at Lansdowne golf course. Just follow the signs as you stroll down the cart paths towards the Potomac River. I felt a little odd walking through the course but the marshalls were there pointing the way to the Potomac along with the signs.

Address: 43519 Squirrel Ridge Pl, Lansdowne, VA 20176

Once we got down to the Potomac a small set of wooden steps led us down to the river. Since the water level was lower large boulders were available to explore along with small river shells for the kids to collect. Once the kids got bored we walked back up the steps and along the section of Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail that lies inside the park. It was a nice shady walk with the kids. We did use our stroller most of the way. If you are a geo-cacher this place is great for searching for hidden caches. After the park we hit up the golf courses’ small snack bar located at the entrance of the trail. They had no problems serving a non member and allowed us to sit at the tables and chairs to eat our lunch. Plus there is restroom attached to the snack bar.

We are definitely coming back to this natural park for some more fun! It was a beautiful setting to take the kids and burn off some of  that extra energy they always seem to have.

Lyndora Park in Ashburn, VA!

Lyndora Park in Ashburn, VA!

Lyndora Park is located in Ashburn, VA in a planned community called Loudoun Valley. The Loudoun County community park backs up to open natural space and as you drive to the park you pass large single-family homes. Loudoun Valley was developed by Toll Brothers and the park was designed by them as well. The park is located right next door to the community club house and pool on Lucketts Bridge Road.

The park can be accessed either by Route 28, Route 50 and or Route 267 Dulles Toll Road. The park has a small fenced in tot lot, very well maintained baseball and soccer field. Two Porta Potties were available for restrooms. The best part of the park was the large pond. The pond has a walk out so you can see the geese, turtles and fish swimming in the pond. The pond is also catch and release and many residents were fishing when we checked it out.

Cute little park! The equipment was in great condition but lacked shade. The gnats were pretty bad in the grassy areas but at the tot lot they seemed to be okay. All the natural trees were nice to see in such a newer planned community.

Next stop……Brown’s Chapel Park in Reston, VA!

Legacy Park in Ashburn, VA!

Today we checked out  Legacy Park located in Brambleton a planned community in Ashburn, VA. Brambleton is named for a plantation that was once in the area. Construction began around 2001 with the hopes of creating a close knit pedestrian friendly community. This Loudoun County community is beautiful and includes newer Estate homes, Single family homes, Townhomes, and condos. Legacy park is really nice. It’s set amongst a grove of large older trees and has plenty of shade.

The play equipment is very nice and plenty of different pieces for the kids to try. There is a volleyball court and a pond to walk around too. It doesn’t have restrooms but a shopping center is right across the street with public restrooms.

The park is located at Belmont Ridge Road and Legacy Park Drive in Brambleton. We will definitely be hitting up this park in the future. It’s maintained really well and neat place to take the family.

Next Stop Briar Patch Park in Sterling……

Bles Park in Ashburn, VA!

Bles Park in Ashburn, VA!

Bles Park is tucked back behind George Washington University satellite campus in Ashburn, VA. The park offers three soccer fields, playground, and hiking trails. The trails take you along an inlet of the Potomac River. The soccer fields are nicely maintained and full of soccer players practicing.

Address: 44830 Riverside Parkway, Ashburn, Virginia

The playground has new equipment including swings, teeter totter, and two sets of slides. It does not have any shade but restrooms are available.

After the kids hit the playground we checked out the hiking trails. The trail connects to the Broad Corridor Trails and Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trails. You walk through fields and protected wetlands with lots of wildlife including frogs and birds.

Overall the Loudoun County park is nice but with no shade we probably won’t hit up the playground during the hotter months. The hiking trails were nice and we’re definitely going to hit the trails for some geo-caching when the weather is nice. If you’re a soccer player the fields were nicely maintained and great place to watch a game.

Time to hit up a park in Brambleton, VA!
