This park features  three baseball and  three soccer fields, short walking trail and a garden.  Although this park doesn’t have any playground equipment, we enjoyed visiting this park to see their garden and ball fields.  There are over 159 garden plots rented to private citizens on an annual basis for both vegetable and flower gardening.  Located in the center of all the ball fields is a restroom.   There is plenty of shade and lots of parking. The fields are very busy on the weekend as a lot of organizations and schools both practice and play.

If you are located near Annandale, I recommend stopping by this park, especially during the Spring season to see the garden and enjoy a walk.

Backlick Park in Annandale, VA!

Backlick Park in Annandale, VA!

On one of our park crawling expeditions we headed to Annandale to check out a few parks. One of the parks we stopped by was Backlick Park off of Backlick Road. Backlick Park has lit tennis courts, unlit basketball court, horseshoe pit, playground area, paved and unpaved walking/hiking trails and no shortage of picnic tables.

Address: 4516 Backlick Rd., Annandale, VA 22003

The 8-acre park has both paved trails and dirt hiking/equestrian trails. We didn’t make it very far down the paved path since there had just been a large storm and had downed several big trees across the path.

The playground area is surrounded by trees and is handicap accessible. The large piece of play equipment has a ramp system which connects to the paved trail. The only swings available are the toddler swings. A local family playing at the park said that a porta potty is usually available near the parking lot May through October. Around the play area there are many picnic tables in the shade.

The park is in walking distance of many single-family homes and townhomes. If you live in the Mason District of Annandale check out Backlick Park.

Fitzhugh Park in Annandale, VA!

Fitzhugh Park in Annandale, VA!

During a warm spell a couple of weeks ago the boys and I headed out to check out new parks. One of the parks we ended up at was Fitzhugh Park in Annandale, VA. This 10-acre park has a basketball court, playground and has both paved and dirt trails.

Address: 4966 Americana Dr., Annandale, VA 22003

The park has a ton of shade especially around the playground area. There are two pieces of play equipment but no swings. There were no restrooms here but we were also here in February and the Fairfax County Park Authority doesn’t put out the porta potties till May. When May comes around we’ll check back in to see if they put out a porta potty. The walking/hiking trails are mostly paved and are perfect for strollers and wagons. The hiking trails are all dirt and are perfect for hiking and biking.

The boys had a lot of fun at this park. If you live in the Bristow Village or Americana Fairfax townhomes you have a quick walk to a great Annandale park.

Wakefield Park in Annandale, VA!

Wakefield Park in Annandale, VA has a lot for everyone. The park is also the location for the Audrey Moore Recreation Center. In addition to the RECenter the park has baseball, softball and soccer fields, tennis courts, walking/hiking trails, skate park and two tot lots. The hiking trails are known by mountain bikers and the park hosts several bike events throught out the year.

Address: 8100 Braddock Road, Annandale, VA

The kids had a great time watching the skaters at the skate park before we headed out onto the trails. The trail system can be found on several sites but I liked this one the best. Once we were done hiking we headed over to the tot lot by the baseball fields. There is a small piece of equipment over by the RECenter but they had just put in new equipment and it wasn’t ready yet. The tot lot by the baseball field is small and fenced in but it has plenty of shade. There are restrooms in the RECenter and restrooms by the fields.

The kids and I had a fun time in the park and look forward to hitting the trails again. If you’re lucky enough to live in the Annandale area you can enjoy a great park!

Canterbury Woods Park in Annandale, VA!

This past weekend while previewing homes in Annandale, VA I came across Canterbury Woods Park in Fairfax County. The over 4-acre park has a lot of natural space and walking/hiking trails along with a basketball court and tot lot.

Address: 5018 Wakefield Chapel Rd., Annandale, VA 22003

When we were there we hit up the tot lot before we headed out onto the trails. The tot lot has two large pieces of play equipment and both types of regular and toddler swings. The equipment doesn’t have any shade over it but there are plenty of benches and picnic tables to escape the sun. One of the picnic tables is near a stream that runs through the park and has small fish swimming around. The boys enjoyed feeding their bread to the fish.

This was a very nice park in a great part of Annandale, VA. If you live close by or just happen to be traveling down Braddock Road near Rt 495 you should check it out.

Mason District Park in Annandale, VA!

A few months ago we checked out Mason District Park in Annandale, VA. This Fairfax County park has a large array of activities for everyone including amphitheater, turf and grass soccer field, lit basketball court, lit tennis courts, baseball fields, paved walking/hiking trails, playground, and concessions stand.

Direction: 6621 Columbia Pk., Annandale, VA 22003

Mason District Park has a nice play area which includes large piece of play equipment, rock climbing apparatus and both regular and toddler swings. Clean indoor restrooms are available by the baseball field and concession stands. We were at the park in the afternoon and there was a little bit of shade around the equipment. There are plenty of park benches and picnic tables in the shade near the play area. A pond is located adjacent to the tot lot with a fenced in platform for the kids to watch the turtles and frogs.

If you want complete shaded play equipment there is a small piece of equipment betweeen the baseball field and basketball courts.

Mason District Park has a lot of natural area in addition to the sports fields and other venues at the park. The boys and I enjoyed walking the paved trails through the wooded areas and during the summer months there is a ton of shade from the trees. The amphitheater during the summer months puts on Arts in the Park, a children’s show on Saturday mornings.

The Mason District Park has a lot of different activities for everyone. If you live in Annandale, Fairfax County or you just want to try something new I recommend this park.

Ossian Hall Park in Annandale, VA!

Last Friday the family and I met the in laws in Annandale, VA for some park time at Ossian Hall Park. I had remembered my husband use to play softball here and it was across the way from Annandale High School.

Address: 7900 Heritage Drive Annandale, VA 22003

The park is very appealing with all the stone work and amphitheater. The play area sits up on top of a small hill with fencing around the edges so the kids can’t fall off the play area. Stairs lead up to the play area but there is a ramp you can walk up if you need to. The play area consists of two pieces of play equipment for the younger and older crowd. A tire swing and large fake rock for the older kids to climb on. Large older trees keep the entire play area in the shade and porta potties are located down near the parking lot. In addition to the playground the park has walking/hiking trails,  two lighted softball fields, two lighted tennis and basketball courts.

The parks amphitheatre holds summer concert events and the best part is they are free! Just check the Fairfax County website for dates and times. This was a nice park and definitely worth checking out if you live in the Annandale area.

Annandale Park & Hidden Oak Nature Center in Annandale, VA!

Annandale Park & Hidden Oaks Nature Center is located in Annandale, Virginia off of Route 495 in Fairfax County. The nature center has 1/3 mile of clearly marked trails to take the kids on. Small informative signs are located through the trials for the kids to read.

Inside the nature center there is no shortage of things for the kids to do. A few reptiles and amphibians are featured in exhibits for the kids to view. One exhibit features costumes so the kids can dress up like their favorite animal. After the nature center you can walk down to the play equipment and picnic tables to eat some lunch at Annandale Park. The play equipment wasn’t in the best shape but my kids didn’t care.

If you live in the area this is a great place to take the kids to learn about nature and burn off some energy.
