Corn Maze in the Plains, VA!

Corn Maze in the Plains, VA!

Yesterday was a perfect Fall day and we had so much fun visiting the Corn Maze in the Plains! Voted as the TOP corn maze attraction in the DC area; but that’s not all that can be enjoyed at this fun FALL attraction.  It’s great for all ages!

Located just 6 miles outside of Haymarket, VA, the Corn Maze in the Plains was a nice, smaller Fall activity that we stopped by at this weekend.  This is a great park for all ages, whether you have kids or no kids- entertainment for all! Their biggest attraction is hands down their Corn Maze, which is themed yearly.  This year the theme of the maze is “Maze Attack”. which means the maze is in the shape of a shark.  Our boys thought this was really cool, but were equally impressed by all the other activities.

In addition to the popular Corn Maze, there is also an Obstacle Course, little kids hay maze, tunnel slides, barrels for the kids to roll around in, pumpkin sling shot, a spider web for the kids to climb on a rope maze, hay ride and much more!

In addition to all the day time features, they also have an evening night maze, click here for times and dates.  This truly is a great place because, although there is so much to do, you can always see where the kiddos are playing and exploring.  There are picnic tables spread out throughout the whole area.  I highly recommend putting this on your Fall schedule to visit!

Cavalry Run Park in Manassas, VA!

Cavalry Run Park in Manassas, VA!

We were in Manassas a few weeks ago and traveled to a few different parks, one being Cavalry Run Park.  This is a nice, shaded park by the Hayden Community.

Address: 9201 Ashton Avenue, Manassas, VA 20110

There is a small parking lot when you turn off of Ashton Avenue and then you immediately get to the tot lot that is covered by bark chips. The tot lot includes two slides, climbing equipment, two regular swings and two infant swings.  There is a soccer field and a tennis court as well.  Throughout the park there are picnic tables, trash receptacles, and a grilling area.  There is a large, open space that is good for ‘free play’ also.

Walter Delisle Park in Manassas, VA!

Walter Delisle Park in Manassas, VA!

Recently we stopped by and visited Walter Delisle Park in Manassas.  This is a great little park on the back roads of Manassas and has great shade on those extra hot days.

Address: 9027 West Street, Manassas, VA

This was a nice, quiet park to go and watch my 4 and 2 year old play and be content with one another.  Since it is a very small park including only one tiny tot lot, it was a nice park to sit down just and watch the boys play and use their imagination.  Sometimes when we venture to larger parks, it’s hard for them to play together because of their difference interests, so this was a nice change of pace. There is also a pretty large size yard for the kiddos to run around at.  We played freeze tag for a while and they enjoyed a nice little break at their picnic table to eat a snack.  This park is geared towards the younger crowd, I would say 4 and under.

Last week we visited Winterset Park located in the City of Manassas. This was a great park for all ages.  There were a few different sets of playground equipment, as well as two sets of basketball courts.

The playground has three different equipment structures, which include two different slides and lots of different climbing equipment.  My toddler loved the climbing wall and wanted to do it over and over again.  There is a unique piece that I haven’t yet seen at a playground; the half circle with two tires underneath is a new modern-like see-saw.  Behind that was a fun little zipline.  Once we got the hang of it we had lots of fun on that too! There are four regular swings and two infant swings as well.  The ground of the park is mulch and there are picnic benches around the outside of the parameter for the parents to sit and watch their kiddos play.

Looking to have a picnic?  This park is for you, as there are plenty of picnic tables with a grill centrally located.  Don’t forget your basketball or sidewalk chalk as their are two different basketball courts to play at.  If you are in the City of Manassas, make sure you stop to visit this park!

This park offers two different pieces of playground equipment, which includes slides and climbing areas.  Additionally, there are two sets of swings for both infant and regular.  The playground itself slopes down a small hill from the road and parking is alongside Ranger Road.  There are Cardiovascular Fitness exercises along a small trail that allows you to get a little workout in, while your little one is playing.  Two grills and a picnic area are also located at this park.  One downside:  There are not any restrooms located within the park.

My boys enjoyed the trail and crossing the bridge just as much as the playground aspect of the park.  If you are located in the City of Fairfax of near Ranger Road, check out this park.

Rocky Run Park in Arlington, VA!

Rocky Run Park in Arlington, VA!

Thinking of Spring yet?  We are! Rocky Run Park in Arlington, VA is such a fun park to visit! This park recently had a new makeover in 2014 (phase 1) and has something for everyone to enjoy!  Part of Phase 2 is renovation of the restrooms, so there currently are not any restrooms at this park.  This park is located in the Clarendon area of Arlington.  Included at this park are basketball courts, covered pavilion, climbing wall, modern style playground equipment, rope pyramid, sand area, swings, a large tube slide and so much more!

There is one area of the park geared towards 5-12 year old with lots of climbing equipment and another area for 0-5 year olds.  The middle of the climbing equipment looks like a spider web.  It connects to a larger play structure, which includes ropes to climb, a climbing wall, and a curving tube slide.  This area also includes two rope-like tire swings and an orange piece of circular equipment.  The orange equipment is round shaped and is made for kids to grab a hold of it and spin around in circles.

The playground geared towards 0-5 year olds is where we spent most of our time! This section was awesome and unlike any other park I have been to before.  There are benches all around for the adults to sit at.  I would say this is more of a modern style play ground.  There was a rubbery hop scotch, sand pit, lots of little cars on springs on the “rubbery road”, as well as a little cute market set up to be on the side of the “rubber road”.

kiddieplayground

Also included at the 0-5 year old playground is a smaller playground structure as well as 4 infant swings.  My little ones couldn’t get over all the choices of equipment to play on.  Of course it was one of the nicer days, so it was pretty crowded.

kiddieplayground2

In addition to all the exciting playgrounds, Rocky Run Park also has a pavilion, a cemented area leading to the lower part of this park, which includes two basketball courts and a lighted turf field.  Although we didn’t bring any, I saw a bunch of kids riding their bikes down the sidewalk to the fields.

This, in my opinion, is a must visit park.  If you don’t live in Arlington, pack a picnic lunch and check this park out! You won’t be disappointed!

The Plaza at Tysons Corner in McLean, VA!

The Plaza at Tysons Corner in McLean, VA!

Have you tried out the metro Silver Line yet?  You can get directly on the metro from The Plaza! We visited The Plaza over the summer, but I wanted to take the boys again and take some more photos because the day we went it was over crowded and hard to get good quality photographs.

Address: 1961 Chain Bridge Road, McLean, VA

( located on the 2nd Floor near the escalators leading up to AMC Theatre and Food Court)

T, -, -, R

The Plaza connects directly to the NEW Silver Line Metro Station and is elevated 32 feet in the air.  There is a fun playground area, game programming center, Kids Club and lots of events.  Some of the events held are concerts, movies on the green and other seasonal activities!

The playground area is called COX Discovery Cove. This is a gated in playground.  The playground is built like a ship and the ground is a rubber surface.  The playground itself is made up of a few different running inclines and declines with steering wheels and telescopes.  There is also a separate toddler play zone. There are several benches and tables near the play area where the parents can keep an eye on their little ones. There is a game programming center as well.  These are great outdoor fun games, such as tabletop tennis, corn hole and chess.  When we were there, there were a few friendly competitions going on and the boys loved seeing all the cheering and excitement going on.  The Plaza also offers a Tysons Corner Center National Geographic Kids Club that is an excellent way to get your children to have fun, all while learning.  These activities alternate the first Tuesday and Saturday of each month.  The current BIG event going on at The Plaza is their ice skating rink (list what event is). There are several FREE events held weekly and seasonally.  Also, just something to look forward to, every Friday over the spring-summer they hold a FREE summer concert and Saturdays there are also Movie Night on the Green, free of charge; so be sure to check their website.

Relaxation? Why not! With Spring (hopefully rapidly approaching), enjoy the ambiance at The Plaza’s comfortable seating and fire pits.  There is lots of seating all around The Plaza.  During the warm months, there is a little water stream through the stone bench seating area with a few fountains as well.

As mentioned before, Villa Lee park is located off of Hunter Road.  There is only street parking, the road is a little narrow, but you can access the park by taking the walking path through the woods, over the bridge to Villa Street Park.  We ended up parking in the cul-da-sac off of Empana Court in the Villa Lee townhouse development.  The park is located right there.  The park has a small playground with climbing equipment,  slide a see-saw, as well as a swing and an infant swing.  There is also a little picnic area where you can enjoy the nicely shaded park.
