Snow is fun with the kids and always beautiful to look at but I’m more of a warm weather person. So here is a new park review for Ashlawn Park in Oakton, VA to remind you of warmer days. Ashlawn Park on the Fairfax County Parks and Rec website states that it has a basketball court, tennis courts, hiking trails and tot lot. The park has yet to be completed but I have attached the Master Plan the county has on file. Right now the park only has walking/hiking/equestrian/biking trails and a large open space area with lots of grass. There are three different ways to access the park.
Address: 10230 Dunfries Rd., Oakton, VA 22181 (Park in a neighborhood cul de sac and walk down a pipe stem to reach the entrance)
Hickory Hollow Lane, Oakton, VA 22181 (Park in the cul de sac and walk down a gravel road to the walking path to enter the park)
Nadine Drive, Oakton, VA 22181 (Park at the end of road, here you’ll find the paved trail into the park)
Even though the park didn’t have play equipment the boys had a great time hitting the trails. A creek runs through the area and by the looks of the surrounding area parts of the park flood pretty easily. While we were going through the trails the boys were excited to see a doe and fawn trotting through the forest. The park offers plenty of shade even during the winter months. Sadly no restrooms at his park but we had a great time hiking the trails and tossing rocks into the creek.
Even if the county never gets around to adding the tot lot and different sports courts this is still a nice natural park. If you live in the Oak Knob, Hidden Estates, and Ashlawn neighborhoods this is great natural park typical to the Oakton/Vienna Area.
